Little Miss 'M'

Such an adorable little girl--I simply fell in love with all those beautiful curls!!
A little diva & the apple of momma's eye.

Maternity Session

I met & photographed a beautiful Mother-to-Be this weekend.  She was absolutely glowing!! Cannot wait til baby 'X' comes along to take his Newborn Photos.  And yes, he is 'Baby X' for now until Mom & Dad figure out a name they both love...

~Mom wanted some photos of herself showing off her beautiful belly~

Family Session

What a wonderful family Session I had this week.  After reviewing the photos, they looked like they were taken on a southern plantation than at a regular park. The Session was located on the outskirts of our tiny little town in a quaint park called Morgan Park.
It was a really hot start of to the day, but our highlight was seeing all the beautiful butterflies flying all around us!  The little guy didn't want his photo taken, but when we talked Choo-Choo Trains, we got at least one photo for Mama~

St. Petersburg, Florida

My husband & I took a ride to St Pete today for an Event set up by WHCC, one of the professional print labs which I use for my Clients prints & products that they receive.  It was held at the Rusty Pelican, a beautiful Dining & Wedding facility which is located right on the Tampa Bay Skyline.  On our way home my husband & I decided to stop along the highway & take some night shots of the Skyway Bridge.

My Cake Decorating Hobby

Did I ever tell you I make cakes??

It is actually a hobby of mine.  I'm not a professional by any means, but I do bake a cake & decorate them every now & then by request only for family, friends & coworkers.

Sometimes I will just go to town, buy all the supplies & work my sculpting skills. But, most times I get special requests to 'make my magic' for Birthday Parties, Baby Showers,Cake Smash Sessions for my 1 year old Photography Sessions & even the occasional Wedding {of course}...

Here are a few more of my cakes I have made in the past.

I have a Blog especially for my Cakes if you wish to follow, here.

The Vina Family

A cute family session this evening...  Mom wanted an 'All Country' themed Session due to how they live in they're daily lives.  Of course we added a cute little flower butt to the mixture & voila, the photos make it complete!!

Amelia's Turns 1!!

I am SO excited to share my niece's 1st Birthday photo shoot.
I LOVE her chunky cheeks, her beautiful HUGE doe-like eyes & her love of cake.

Happy ONE Amelia!!

Brotherly/Sisterly Love....

It shows a protective arm around his baby sister as well as a look of admiration for her dear older brother.

Why A Professional Wedding Photographer?? | Tammy Mayfield Photography

'Why Hire a Professional Wedding Photographer?'

...This is a question that I know for a fact that gets tossed around a LOT by many couples when planning their Weddings.  When planning a Wedding, there are SO many thing that couples think they must factor in, in order to create the most special day of their lives & have it all come together.  Usually, the first thing on ANY Brides list, without a doubt, is obviously searching for 'The Dress'.  It must depict almost exactly to the one that the Bride has been dreaming of since the day she saw her first Princess movie & fell in love with 'Prince Charming'.  Ok, c'mon now--don't tell me that isn't true...??!  LOL~
So, once the dress has been chosen, all gears shift to the meticulous planning of every detail around that dress, making sure not to leave any important detail out.  It then flows to the Venue which is how/where the ceremony will take place, the location of the reception, which food to offer on the menu then to what type of flowers will be ordered, tuxes rented, the romantic Honeymoon & the list goes on & on...

The fairytale wedding of their dreams with everything planned so perfectly & yet, just leaving out one little detail...the photographer.  With so many choices of Wedding Photographers out there as well as the price factor, many couples toss around the possibility of finding other means to capture their special day & opt out of hiring a professional.  They would rather make sure they have enough in their Wedding budget to cover other aspects of their Venue making sure its as perfect as they both had envisioned, than to hire a professional photographer to capture all that perfection.

Well, when it comes down to it & of all the things that can possibly be discounted or cut out completely, an amazing amount of Brides & Grooms choose not to hire the Professional Photographer & go with a friend/relative instead on their Wedding Day.  What couples do not realize is that overall they are leaving out & losing a vital piece of their special day.  After having spent a lot of money building this perfect Wedding Day, they are losing precious memories that could be carried on in professional shots that do not fade over time, or come in snapshots printed at your local shopping center that were either too dark & fuzzied out because the dim lighting in most reception halls, etc, etc, etc.  This seems to be the most common factor that many Brides I have spoke with had encountered--the photos which are still on a disk somewhere, or even in their relatives camera that have yet to be downloaded to a computer.  Also, all those memories of that day may last in that couples memory, but the images cannot be put into photographs to show their children & eventual grandchildren many years later & pass down to future generations.

Photographs are special, especially for capturing moments--special moments that a professional photographer feels or sees because of their talent & art that no-one else may see or would think to capture.  Photographers are there at your Event paid to do a job, a job where they follow you & your Groom & even your guests hiding in the shadows, standing on chairs towering over all of your guests or tuck themselves in corners to capture moments that you do not even realize they are there doing, blending themselves into the crowd creating photographs depicting your day.  You want your family/friends to enjoy themselves as a guest at your Wedding.  Its our job to capture these moments, so you all can enjoy yourselves in celebration.  Examples of those moments are; that stolen kiss, that special look between two people in love....a simple touch or caress & even that first look when a Groom sees his Bride for the very first time...all lost & eventually forgotten.

Many couples feel that a professional photographer is not necessary, but in actuality it is. When planning my own Wedding {many-many moons ago} the 1st thing I did--even before I went dress shopping--was I went on a long & exhausting search for a photographer.  By the time I finally found the one I was satisfied with, my 'hubby to be' was probably having 2nd thoughts about marrying me after dragging him to umpteen consultations with multiple photographers.  But, back in my day a photographer was one of the top ten most important things to do in planning your wedding.  It was a rule not an exception.  So, when I went & looked at portfolio after portfolio I decided that I wanted those dreamy shots, a photographer who took to detail & would capture our special day through creativity & have those shots come out beautifully in photographs & I was not stopping until I found one who could create that for us, within our budget, of course.  Plus, I wanted an album that showed every detail of my wedding from getting ready, to capturing the tears of joy & right down to the tossing of the bouquet with all the single women hitting the floor in a scramble to be the 1st to catch it in hopes to be the next 'Bride'.

Today, those are the only visual memories my husband & I have of our special day.  My kids enjoy looking through our album & Wedding video, too!  It truly brings back precious memories, something we would not have today if we opted out of having a professional wedding photographer photographing our Wedding.  We moved quite a bit the last 19 yrs of our marriage due to my husbands job, so a lot of our 'wedding items' were lost or damaged, even broken.  Most everything was irreplaceable.  But I have my wedding album & that carried my most precious memories, photos of every aspect of our Wedding & all who were invited.  It also captured photos of people who have come in & out of our lives, as well as fond memories of people who are now no longer with us, all there to share in our special day where two lives & a love that became one.

Those are the memories I wish for ALL Brides & Grooms to receive & more!

So, the importance of taking the time to shop for a professional photographer should be a priority, not so much a maybe.  Photos & memories go hand-in-hand & when looking for a photographer, please take the time to search for that perfect one who will not only fit within your budget, but fit your needs as well.  Hiring a good photographer can be a long & tiring process, but it is well worth it in the end & if they are someone who you truly want to capture your day they will be more than willing to work with you to help make it possible...

Branding in Photography | Tammy Mayfield Photography

When I first came into the business of Photography I used to hear the word 'branding' quite frequently.  Of course, I always passed it off as just another tool in photographic terms that merely meant making myself a Logo for my business cards, or a watermark for my photos that I would eventually put on Facebook or other streaming threads.   Now with that said, branding does mean your type of  marketing material, but there is so much more....

With all the questions I asked throughout the years & listened to the instructors teaching us how to run our businesses as well as studying good photographic skills, nobody ever really seemed to touch much on the subject of what exactly branding really meant.

Well, after a few years, many evenings of reading & researching Blogs & several workshops later, I now understand the meaning of true branding.  Branding simply means a personal 'style'.  Each photographer is different in their own unique way, so branding may mean something different from one photographer as it does to another.  There is no one right or wrong way to brand your business.  So to explain to you what branding means to me read just a little further.

One of the best ways I have found on how I branded my work, after looking back, is when I was PB {portfolio building} I enjoyed taking certain portraits/themes over another.  After I found myself taking more & more of a certain themed shot I found that I was really drawn towards photographing Weddings & Newborns the most.  This is where my passion lies.  With that I found myself finding a 'style' within the shots I was taking.  For example, with my Wedding Photography of some of the Weddings I have photographed I seemed more moved by outside, vintage-y garden style weddings with a touch of shabby-chic over the more formal, inside ones.  Now, that doesn't mean that I only pick & choose certain Wedding styles when clients approach.  No.  It simply means that when I am in my edit-mode of editing I play around with actions, overlays & gradients I find that gives my photos a more dreamy, soft look with a hint of vintage.  So when I started making my own marketing materials I added those types of photos to my pamphlets to attract Brides who are more into those styles of photos out of preference to the style of Wedding Photography that they are more interested in & looking to receive in their own photos.  This is where you need to basically think about where your targeting market is & focus on the audience you want to appeal to.   Lifestyle shoots also inspire me over the usual 'posed' shots that most of my own Wedding album has inside of it.  Back when I married my husband {which was SO long ago in the age of film} we didn't really have much of a choice.  A wedding photographer was just that, a wedding photographer with the traditional shots of looking into the camera for each photo snapped.  I think I even remember my photographer asking everyone to stand still & say 'cheese'.  LOL!

So in light of my own experiences I want something so much more for my Bride & Groom clients.  I want to capture what I call their Story that depicts that special day.  Five, ten or even twenty-thirty years from now I want that very couple to pull out their Wedding album that I created for them all those years ago & look through it as if their wedding day was just yesterday.  I want that smile to return as they recall each natural event that took place that day....That unknown capture that I shot of that Bride with that silently shy glance showing a sparkle in her eye as she looked from across the room at her new groom, or that first look from the groom as he sees his Bride for the very first time in that special dress carefully picked out after sorting through TONS of Bridal magazines since she was a little girl searching for that perfect gown JUST for her Groom on her Wedding Day....A close hug behind that tree with whispers of forever & a stolen kiss out of eye shot of their guests in anticipation of being alone not thinking anyone was around....   Those are the memories I want to capture for each Bride & Groom.  So, to me, that is my 'style'.  I want attract that certain population of Brides & Grooms that are looking for the same sense of style or 'branding' that envelopes me, creating a vision when looking through my viewfinder for the perfect shot, or pose, or secret glance.  A fairytale....

With all of the above, that all comes down to marketing your material to reflect your sense of photographic style.  This is where you will choose how you want to attract your clients by using promotional products featuring whatever form of photography that is your passion from family sessions to weddings to newborns, etc--your specialty.  Using your style, you need to incorporate what tools you want to use to advertise your business.  Choosing companies that sell products in various styles & textures of stationary that achieves the look you are wanting as well as which promotional items you decide to use to sell your business to clients.  I will say this, clients want visuals.  The better the visual products you portray, the more interested clients will be in choosing your services.  It doesnt have to be expensive or elaborate.  Clean lines, simple wording & easy to navigate information brings clients in.  I personally use a client booklet which I have made showcasing products from prints to albums to wall art.  This goes with me to all proofing sessions so my clients can see first hand what I have to offer them in products, visually.  I also have a jewelry line that I have put into a soft cover book that shows items that I keep in stock which is readily available with the option of custom-made items.  To showcase my work when I am at county fairs, community events & bridal shows I have tri-folds for each specialty that displays some of my work & offers pricing so the client can take it along with them & each item has my contact information displayed on them.  Of course there are my business cards, client referral cards & postcards for past clients, etc.  Everything I have is all printed on coordinating paper & supplies to match my 'style' found in my photographs, thus carrying my brand throughout all aspects of my business.

I hope this has helped you to understand what branding your business is all about & that its not just making yourself a Logo & running with only that.  For me, personally, I think once I developed my branding, or style, everything else in my business seemed to just fall into place because that was one major thing I didn't need to think about anymore.  It took me a while to get to that point, but once I reached the realization of basic 'necessities' I focused more on the things I really needed to focus on like keeping up with my marketing, reaching out to clients; past, present  future & doing the things I love most, which is photographing & editing.  Good Luck!
