Why A Professional Wedding Photographer?? | Tammy Mayfield Photography

'Why Hire a Professional Wedding Photographer?'

...This is a question that I know for a fact that gets tossed around a LOT by many couples when planning their Weddings.  When planning a Wedding, there are SO many thing that couples think they must factor in, in order to create the most special day of their lives & have it all come together.  Usually, the first thing on ANY Brides list, without a doubt, is obviously searching for 'The Dress'.  It must depict almost exactly to the one that the Bride has been dreaming of since the day she saw her first Princess movie & fell in love with 'Prince Charming'.  Ok, c'mon now--don't tell me that isn't true...??!  LOL~
So, once the dress has been chosen, all gears shift to the meticulous planning of every detail around that dress, making sure not to leave any important detail out.  It then flows to the Venue which is how/where the ceremony will take place, the location of the reception, which food to offer on the menu then to what type of flowers will be ordered, tuxes rented, the romantic Honeymoon & the list goes on & on...

The fairytale wedding of their dreams with everything planned so perfectly & yet, just leaving out one little detail...the photographer.  With so many choices of Wedding Photographers out there as well as the price factor, many couples toss around the possibility of finding other means to capture their special day & opt out of hiring a professional.  They would rather make sure they have enough in their Wedding budget to cover other aspects of their Venue making sure its as perfect as they both had envisioned, than to hire a professional photographer to capture all that perfection.

Well, when it comes down to it & of all the things that can possibly be discounted or cut out completely, an amazing amount of Brides & Grooms choose not to hire the Professional Photographer & go with a friend/relative instead on their Wedding Day.  What couples do not realize is that overall they are leaving out & losing a vital piece of their special day.  After having spent a lot of money building this perfect Wedding Day, they are losing precious memories that could be carried on in professional shots that do not fade over time, or come in snapshots printed at your local shopping center that were either too dark & fuzzied out because the dim lighting in most reception halls, etc, etc, etc.  This seems to be the most common factor that many Brides I have spoke with had encountered--the photos which are still on a disk somewhere, or even in their relatives camera that have yet to be downloaded to a computer.  Also, all those memories of that day may last in that couples memory, but the images cannot be put into photographs to show their children & eventual grandchildren many years later & pass down to future generations.

Photographs are special, especially for capturing moments--special moments that a professional photographer feels or sees because of their talent & art that no-one else may see or would think to capture.  Photographers are there at your Event paid to do a job, a job where they follow you & your Groom & even your guests hiding in the shadows, standing on chairs towering over all of your guests or tuck themselves in corners to capture moments that you do not even realize they are there doing, blending themselves into the crowd creating photographs depicting your day.  You want your family/friends to enjoy themselves as a guest at your Wedding.  Its our job to capture these moments, so you all can enjoy yourselves in celebration.  Examples of those moments are; that stolen kiss, that special look between two people in love....a simple touch or caress & even that first look when a Groom sees his Bride for the very first time...all lost & eventually forgotten.

Many couples feel that a professional photographer is not necessary, but in actuality it is. When planning my own Wedding {many-many moons ago} the 1st thing I did--even before I went dress shopping--was I went on a long & exhausting search for a photographer.  By the time I finally found the one I was satisfied with, my 'hubby to be' was probably having 2nd thoughts about marrying me after dragging him to umpteen consultations with multiple photographers.  But, back in my day a photographer was one of the top ten most important things to do in planning your wedding.  It was a rule not an exception.  So, when I went & looked at portfolio after portfolio I decided that I wanted those dreamy shots, a photographer who took to detail & would capture our special day through creativity & have those shots come out beautifully in photographs & I was not stopping until I found one who could create that for us, within our budget, of course.  Plus, I wanted an album that showed every detail of my wedding from getting ready, to capturing the tears of joy & right down to the tossing of the bouquet with all the single women hitting the floor in a scramble to be the 1st to catch it in hopes to be the next 'Bride'.

Today, those are the only visual memories my husband & I have of our special day.  My kids enjoy looking through our album & Wedding video, too!  It truly brings back precious memories, something we would not have today if we opted out of having a professional wedding photographer photographing our Wedding.  We moved quite a bit the last 19 yrs of our marriage due to my husbands job, so a lot of our 'wedding items' were lost or damaged, even broken.  Most everything was irreplaceable.  But I have my wedding album & that carried my most precious memories, photos of every aspect of our Wedding & all who were invited.  It also captured photos of people who have come in & out of our lives, as well as fond memories of people who are now no longer with us, all there to share in our special day where two lives & a love that became one.

Those are the memories I wish for ALL Brides & Grooms to receive & more!

So, the importance of taking the time to shop for a professional photographer should be a priority, not so much a maybe.  Photos & memories go hand-in-hand & when looking for a photographer, please take the time to search for that perfect one who will not only fit within your budget, but fit your needs as well.  Hiring a good photographer can be a long & tiring process, but it is well worth it in the end & if they are someone who you truly want to capture your day they will be more than willing to work with you to help make it possible...
